The watercolor is of a young woman, painted in shades of black and gray. The painting shows the head and shoulders of the woman as well as a portion of her arm and hands as she reads a book. The head covering resembles a mantilla but is made of a heavier fabric. The book she is holding is relatively small and black-- it could be a prayer book. She is wearing and necklace made of a large beads and a thin wedding beads.

Working drawing of a buffet server
Scale 1/4 in to 1 ft. Front, side and exploded views and section drawing of a buffet. The detailed work on the doors, the molding and trim along the edges, center drawer guide and dust lip appear in the first drawing; a side view showing the marble top, drawer, drawer runner, and full swivel casters appear in the second drawing; and the marble top, interior of the drawer and its construction under the marble top, and the interior of the cabinet with open doors appear in the third drawing. Several smaller drawing show the detail of the grooves, drawer guides, side panels for the shelves, etc.

"Problem 45" One of two separate works painted by Mitchell Morehead, mounted on a piece of covered cardboard measuring 76 x 56. The watercolor shows a table, possibly a parlor table, with a candle, clock, and vase on it. The wood is dark and the legs are X-shaped., Mounted on the same piece of covered cardboard as BC-0109
Wood furniture construction
Section drawings of several types of joints, an exploded drawing of a chest of drawers, and a perspective e drawing of an armchair. The types of joints illustrated include: plain butt, splined, dowelled, mortise-and-tenon, tongue-and-groove, rebated, and dovetail. The parts of the chest of drawers are marked and include: the back panel; the top rail; bearer; dust panel; center guide; side panel; front post; bottom frame; bottom rail; foot (square tapered); and the side, back, bottom, and front of the drawer. The parts of the chair are marked and include: top rail; caning; back post; arm; arm stump; cross rail; side rail; corner block; cross stretcher; side stretcher; front leg; muslin; hair; burlap; springs; and webbing.
[Wood and sawing methods]
Three different drawings on the same sheet labeled A through C. The first drawing is a wedge of a piece of lumber and has the parts labeled: Pith; Heart wood; Sap wood; Annual rings; Wood rays; Cambium; and bark. The second drawing shows plain or bastard sawing and the third shows quarter sawing. In each of the last two drawings, the rings and core of the lumber are shown along the markings from the sawing.
Window shutters, regent's room, and office of the secretary
"Smithsonian Institution, Washington 325, D.C. April 13, 1964" Scale 1 in to 1 ft. Three drawings of shutters (numbered 1 through 3) with a set of smaller drawings to the extreme right. In the drawings numbered 1 through 3, the plan view is at the top of the sheet and the elevation view is below it. The first set of drawings shows shutters with an arced section over it and curved lines showing the placement of curtains. The second set of drawings shows a set of shutters separated by a wall panel. The third set of drawings shows a single section of the shutters. Some of the areas labeled on these three drawings include mullion and cross brace. The smaller drawings to the extreme right are labeled "Knob and Shutter Latch Assembly, "Louver End, and Linkage Detail."
The Windjammer Interior Design
The watercolors show three cross section views of corridors, dining areas, and lounging areas of a sailing ship, the Windjammer. A fourth watercolor shows the overhead view of the dining area and rooms around it.

"Lesson 40." Mounted on the same piece of covered cardboard as BC-0094 and BC-0096. One of three separate works painted by students, mounted on the same piece of heavy cardboard measuring 77 x 56. The watercolor shows a white porcelain vase, shaped like a pitcher with a handle, with several irises shades of gray and white., Mounted on the same piece of covered cardboard as BC-0094 and BC-0096
White House, East Room
"Museum Problem, 2 '71" The watercolor of the East Room is painted in gold and brown tones, the upper half showing the ceiling and two chandeliers. The lower portion of the painting shows one wall with a tall candelabra, the stand going from the floor to two-thirds up the wall, and two floor length windows with sheer curtains and gold drapes. There is a grand piano, gain in shades of brown and gold, positioned on the floor between the two windows. The other wall has a fireplace with two short candelabras and a bust of a man on it, and a mirror over the mantel that almost reaches the ceiling. On the left side of the fireplace there is a small portrait and on the right side is a larger portrait of a woman. There is a gold and cream upholstered love set under each of the portraits. The floor is in a gold, cream, and light brown geometric design, possibly made of marble.
Watercolor of an urn
The institute's name and address have been stamped in the upper right corner. Torn from a sketchbook with the spiral at the top. The watercolor shows an urn with wide black stripes going around it and a Greek or Egyptian painting of people around the center. The watercolor is in the upper left quadrant of the paper, the remainder of the paper is blank.
Washington Golf and Country Club window treatment and mantle design
"Drawn by D.H. Window treatment and mantle design, Ray Bates Associates. Date 4-66. Drawing number 1" Scale 1/2 in to 1 ft. Mantel is consistently spelled "mantle" on the drawing. The top half of the sheet shows three windows separated by paneled sections of the wall. The windows have full length sheer curtains, and drapes that are tied back at the sides of a window for a swag effect. The bottom half of the sheet is a detailed drawing of a section of wall with a fireplace in the center. There is a picture or painting above the fireplace, and paneled walls on either side of the fireplace. The placement of furniture and items on the all on both sides of the fireplace are identical. There is a table with a bowl in the center and a candle with a glass globe over it on either side of the bowl. A wall mirror is above the table and sconce is on the wall on either side of the mirror.
